Unashamed - Grace for the Outsider

Nov 30, 2025    Jamie Maxim

In this message from Joshua 2, we meet Rahab—a Canaanite, a prostitute, and the last person anyone would expect to become a trophy of God’s grace. As two Israelite spies enter Jericho, Rahab boldly aligns herself with Israel’s God, confessing, “The LORD your God—He is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath.” Though an outsider, Rahab receives the Lord’s welcome, demonstrating that God’s mercy reaches further than our past, our labels, or our shame. The scarlet cord she ties in her window becomes a vivid symbol of refuge—pointing ahead to the blood of Christ that covers and rescues all who trust in Him. This story reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s redeeming love and that faith often grows by hearing what God has done rather than seeing it firsthand. Rahab’s life is living proof that God delights to save unlikely people and write them into His Story. In Christ, the outsider becomes family, the ashamed become unashamed, and grace does what no human effort ever could.
