Your prayers have been felt by those who are serving overseas this week. Lord willing, we will be returning from Senegal tomorrow, and the first wave of servants going to the Dominican Republic left this past Tuesday. I thank God for your generous support both in prayer and financially.

Benevolence Fund
This Sunday, we will be taking our first Benevolence fund offering.
One of the ways the church displays the gospel is through visible acts of compassion and generosity. Throughout Scripture, God’s people were called to care for widows, the vulnerable, the poor, and those facing hardship (James 1:27; Isaiah 58:6–10; Matthew 25:35–40). Our prayer is that Harvest Lakeshore would continue to be known as a church that loves people not only with words, but with tangible action. The Benevolence Fund allows us to respond thoughtfully and intentionally when crises arise, whether for church members, regular attenders, or members of our local community. As we prepare for next Sunday’s Benevolence Fund Offering, we encourage you to pray about how God wants you to participate in helping us care well for others.

Lastly, continue to pray for VBS. Your prayers have been felt. Angie and I got on a plane to Senegal last night as we plan to serve some church planters and their wives over the next week. Be in prayer for church planters as they travel and for us. Pray God knits our hearts together, and pray God gives us endurance to serve while navigating jet lag.

Benevolence Fund
Our Benevolence Fund is intended to provide temporary assistance for essential needs such as food, housing, transportation, medical care, or crisis counseling. The fund is designed to function as a “last resort” after other reasonable resources have been explored. Because we desire to steward God’s resources wisely, requests will be reviewed carefully and confidentially by a Benevolence Fund Deacon under elder oversight. Assistance is intended to help people move toward stability rather than reinforce unhealthy or irresponsible patterns (2 Thessalonians 3:10–12; Proverbs 19:17). Our desire is not simply to meet financial needs, but to care for people holistically and point them toward long-term health and flourishing in Christ. Be praying both how you can be involved and for wisdom as we seek to establish this ministry.

Lastly, this Sunday, Tyler Holder will be joining us again to preach the second half of John 1.

BENEVOLENCE FUND
The primary way God designed care to happen in the church is through relationships. In the New Testament, believers shared burdens, opened their homes, provided meals, encouraged one another, and stepped into practical needs together (Acts 2:42–47; Romans 12:13; Galatians 6:2). Our small groups are intended to be one of the first places where care and support happen at Harvest Lakeshore. The Benevolence Fund is not designed to replace personal ministry or community responsibility; rather, it serves as a structured and accountable way for the church to assist when needs exceed what individuals or groups can reasonably provide. We want to be a church where people are truly known, cared for, and supported both personally and practically. Be in prayer for how the Lord wants you to be part of the offering that will happen on January 28th.

At Harvest Lakeshore, we believe caring for people in need is not optional for followers of Jesus — it is part of living out the gospel. Scripture repeatedly calls God’s people to remember the poor, bear one another’s burdens, and demonstrate compassion in practical ways (Galatians 2:10; Galatians 6:2; 1 John 3:17). Our Benevolence Fund exists to provide temporary assistance to individuals and families facing genuine hardship while reflecting the love and wisdom of Christ. Tomorrow, Thursday, May 7, we will gather at Lakeshore High School cafeteria to pray with some other local churches at the National Day of Prayer Meeting.

As we approach Mother’s Day, we want to take time to honor and give thanks for the gift of mothers—those who have nurtured, sacrificed, prayed, and reflected God’s care in countless seen and unseen ways. Scripture calls us to “honor” (Exodus 20:12), and this is a meaningful opportunity to express gratitude for the women who have shaped our lives in Christlike love.

At the same time, we recognize that this day can carry a mix of emotions. Some come from homes marked by absence or pain, and others carry the quiet grief of longing to be mothers. We want you to know that you are seen and loved. Our God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and He meets us with compassion in every story. As a church family, may we celebrate with gratitude, while also walking with tenderness, bearing one another’s burdens in Christ.

This Sunday, we will consider our justification in Christ as we study Galatians 2:11-21.

Your hard work this past Saturday on spring cleaning and projects around the church property is a blessing to all who use our building, both on Sundays and throughout the week. After seeing all of you serving (and bringing your kids to help), we thought it would be helpful to update our inventory of the various gifts and abilities God has given each person who attends Harvest. Please take a few minutes to fill out the Serving Interest form, which will assist our ministry team leaders in filling roles on their teams and help us to know what specialized gifts and abilities could help serve our church in the future. Tomorrow is our Spring Clean Out Day, when we will be working on various projects inside and outside the church building. It will be a great time of fellowship as we serve together. Don't forget to bring various tools that you have to assist with both outdoor and indoor projects.

Also, Sunday after church, we will have an Interest Meeting about a short-term mission trip to the Dominican Republic in February or March of 2027. This will be a trip that anyone could go on as we minister alongside local churches connected with "Go Ministries" (a disciple-making ministry we partner with in the DR). Together, we will be reminded that the gospel of Jesus Christ is not just the doorway into the Christian life—it is the foundation, the power, and the goal of everything. In a world filled with competing voices and distorted truths, Galatians calls us back to the one true gospel that sets us free and keeps us anchored in Christ. Come ready to be grounded, challenged, and encouraged.

Dominican Republic Trip – Interest Meeting
We’re beginning to explore a mission trip to the Dominican Republic next winter. This will be a trip that anyone could go on as we minister alongside local churches connected with "Go Ministries" (a disciple-making ministry we partner with in the DR). There will be an informational meeting after church on Sunday, April 26th, to share the vision, answer questions, and gauge interest. This is a great opportunity to learn what it might look like to be part of what God is doing beyond our local context.

Church family, what a gift it is to walk together in the gospel. May this week be marked by a deeper devotion to Christ, a greater awareness of His grace, and a renewed commitment to live on mission for His glory.

Sunday is Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week.
Below is a Holy Week devotional you can do with your family each day this coming week. In the devotional, there is a simple rhythm each day: reading a passage of scripture, discussion questions, a suggested prayer to guide you in family prayer, and a suggested song or two you can sing with your family. We have included a Spotify Playlist entitled 2026 Holy Week Devotional Playlist.

THIS SUNDAY: Families with kids in the choir, please arrive by 9 am for practice with the worship team before Church.

Next week, the Good Friday Service will be at 6 PM.

Imagine a vineyard.
When a vine grows naturally, it spreads along the ground. The fruit becomes vulnerable to disease, pests, and rot. But when a gardener installs a trellis, something changes. The trellis lifts the vine upward, giving it structure and support so it can grow toward the sunlight and produce healthy fruit.
 
The trellis doesn’t produce the fruit. The vine does.
But without the trellis, the vine often grows wild and fruitless.
 
In the same way, a Rule of Life is like a trellis for the soul. It doesn’t create spiritual life. Only Jesus does that. But it gives our lives a structure that helps us stay connected to Christ. Many of us want deeper devotion to Jesus, but our lives often have no structure that supports it. Our schedules are crowded. Our attention is fragmented. Our phones buzz constantly.
This past Sunday we talked about a rule of life because we want to ask the question,
What trellis will help my life grow toward Christ instead of drifting toward distraction?
We handed out a worksheet to guide you in making a plan to abide in Christ.
Jesus said in John 15:5, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit.”
 
I have learned that devotion to God grows when our lives are intentionally structured around abiding in Jesus. I look forward to Sunday as we continue to encourage one another in our walk with Jesus Christ as we open Psalm 119.

I am also encouraged to hear how God is already meeting folks in our church through the digital fast. • Detach from distractions to connect with the Father, to approach Him and seek His face.
• Detach from doing to find real rest in him and honor God through rest.
• Detach from resentment and discouragement to experience gratitude for his goodness, along with knowing more joy, peace, and hope.

This Sunday, we are starting a new series entitled Distraction to Devotion. Our theme for the year is Decrease Distraction and Increase Devotion. This series will be 11 weeks of expository messages to help us direct our attention and affections toward Christ and his kingdom. During the series, we plan to do a digital fast and a prayer summit. More to come on both of those. I am praying that you all encounter Christ more deeply in the next season.
There are a number of events coming this month.

Soup Sunday will be this week. 

Harvest Kids training is happening on the last Saturday of the month. This is for all who serve in Harvest Kids, whether you've been serving or your are wanting to learn how you can serve.

As we mentioned in the announcements, there is a community prayer gathering next Sunday evening. Several churches in the community have partnered together to seek God's face, worship, and pray for revival in our county. You can find more information here.

Then next month we have both the Marriage Night (which includes dinner and childcare) and a Women's Bible Study on the book of Titus. Both will be great opportunities to open God's word and grow together. Make sure you sign up, as registration closes for the marriage event in 2 weeks.

This week, you can turn in your baby bottles to support Life Plan. If you have not turned them in yet, please put them on the back table, and we will deliver them to Life Plan for you this coming week.

I am in Kentucky with a number of our young adults attending Cross, a conference focused on stirring up 18-25 year olds to take the Gospel to the Nations, either by going or by sending. Thank you for praying for God to stir our hearts to take the Gospel to those who don't know Jesus. We will be returning late Saturday night.
Christmas Clean Up this Sunday
Now that the Advent season is over, we are going to take down and store all of our Christmas decorations after church on Sunday. It should only take us about 30 minutes to take down everything. Your help would be greatly appreciated right after the service. Many hands make light work.

Reclaim Parenting
Parents, you can sign up for our parenting class to be equipped with scriptural principles and practical parenting advice. The class will begin on Saturday morning, Jan 10th, and 3 subsequent Tuesday nights. The class will include a small group discussion. The cost is only $20 a person, which includes materials and childcare each time we meet.

Merry Christmas!!! Joy to the world, the Lord has come. May today be a sweet reminder that God came near. I pray you have sweet memories with family and friends as you rejoice that the Savior has come.

Some of you asked for the quote Bonnie Anderson shared during her powerful testimony this past Sunday. The quote is at the bottom of this post.

This Sunday, my good friend Tyler Holder will be opening God's word to Matthew 11:28-30, where we are invited to respond to God's invitation for rest.

A few reminders:

This Sunday, some of the children from Harvest Kids will be joining our worship team to lead us in a song or two. Parents with children in the choir, please arrive by 9:00 a.m for practice. Don't forget to come early this Sunday for coffee and treats starting at 9:45 am.

Christmas Eve
Then on Christmas Eve, we will celebrate the Light of the World who stepped down into darkness. On Christmas Eve, we will read from God's word, sing of Christ's coming, and celebrate the coming of our king. There will be no Harvest Kids on Christmas Eve, but we will have activity packets for the kids and have a time for them to participate in the service.

Lineage of Grace Series
Don't forget to come early this Sunday for coffee and treats starting at 9:45 am. It will be a great time for fellowship before we continue our series "A Lineage of Grace" as we highlight God's grace in the midst of brokenness. This will be a great opportunity for you to invite friends to encounter the God who came in the flesh and meets us in our brokenness with the amazing grace of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
PARENTS: If you have younger children in church, this Sunday we will be in the story of David and Bathsheba.
