Sunday is Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week.
Below is a Holy Week devotional you can do with your family each day this coming week. In the devotional, there is a simple rhythm each day: reading a passage of scripture, discussion questions, a suggested prayer to guide you in family prayer, and a suggested song or two you can sing with your family. We have included a Spotify Playlist entitled 2026 Holy Week Devotional Playlist.

Imagine a vineyard.
When a vine grows naturally, it spreads along the ground. The fruit becomes vulnerable to disease, pests, and rot. But when a gardener installs a trellis, something changes. The trellis lifts the vine upward, giving it structure and support so it can grow toward the sunlight and produce healthy fruit.
 
The trellis doesn’t produce the fruit. The vine does.
But without the trellis, the vine often grows wild and fruitless.
 
In the same way, a Rule of Life is like a trellis for the soul. It doesn’t create spiritual life. Only Jesus does that. But it gives our lives a structure that helps us stay connected to Christ. Many of us want deeper devotion to Jesus, but our lives often have no structure that supports it. Our schedules are crowded. Our attention is fragmented. Our phones buzz constantly.
This past Sunday we talked about a rule of life because we want to ask the question,
What trellis will help my life grow toward Christ instead of drifting toward distraction?
We handed out a worksheet to guide you in making a plan to abide in Christ.
Jesus said in John 15:5, “Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit.”
 
I have learned that devotion to God grows when our lives are intentionally structured around abiding in Jesus. I look forward to Sunday as we continue to encourage one another in our walk with Jesus Christ as we open Psalm 119.

I am also encouraged to hear how God is already meeting folks in our church through the digital fast. One family, rather than the kids revolting from no devices, they have experience time with one another and time in God's creation. Several have shared they didn't realize how much they touched their phone each day. Remember, the goal for this week is to Detach

DETACH

• Detach from distractions to connect with the Father, to approach Him and seek His face.
• Detach from doing to find real rest in him and honor God through rest.
• Detach from resentment and discouragement to experience gratitude for his goodness, along with knowing more joy, peace, and hope.

This Sunday, we are starting a new series entitled Distraction to Devotion. Our theme for the year is Decrease Distraction and Increase Devotion. This series will be 11 weeks of expository messages to help us direct our attention and affections toward Christ and his kingdom. During the series, we plan to do a digital fast and a prayer summit. More to come on both of those. I am praying that you all encounter Christ more deeply in the next season.
There are a number of events coming this month.

Soup Sunday will be this week. 

Harvest Kids training is happening on the last Saturday of the month. This is for all who serve in Harvest Kids, whether you've been serving or your are wanting to learn how you can serve.

As we mentioned in the announcements, there is a community prayer gathering next Sunday evening. Several churches in the community have partnered together to seek God's face, worship, and pray for revival in our county. You can find more information here.

Then next month we have both the Marriage Night (which includes dinner and childcare) and a Women's Bible Study on the book of Titus. Both will be great opportunities to open God's word and grow together. Make sure you sign up, as registration closes for the marriage event in 2 weeks.

This week, you can turn in your baby bottles to support Life Plan. If you have not turned them in yet, please put them on the back table, and we will deliver them to Life Plan for you this coming week.
Lastly, VBS is coming. You can register kids here and sign up to serve here. So excited we get to minister not only to the kids of Harvest Lakeshore but also to our community. Make sure you sign up to serve and sign up your kids to attend.

I want to thank you for the way you welcomed Tyler Holder and his family 2 Sundays ago. They communicated how blessed they were to worship at Harvest. Tyler's message was encouraging. Mike will be preaching this Sunday, as I will be in Milwaukee preaching at Vertical Church Milwaukee. Jesse Schmidt pastors that church. He shared a message on worship in the midst of suffering this past fall. Please pray for me as I have the opportunity to encourage a sister church in our network, and pray for Mike as he brings God's word this Sunday.

I am in Kentucky with a number of our young adults attending Cross, a conference focused on stirring up 18-25 year olds to take the Gospel to the Nations, either by going or by sending. Thank you for praying for God to stir our hearts to take the Gospel to those who don't know Jesus. We will be returning late Saturday night.
Christmas Clean Up this Sunday
Now that the Advent season is over, we are going to take down and store all of our Christmas decorations after church on Sunday. It should only take us about 30 minutes to take down everything. Your help would be greatly appreciated right after the service. Many hands make light work.

Reclaim Parenting
Parents, you can sign up for our parenting class to be equipped with scriptural principles and practical parenting advice. The class will begin on Saturday morning, Jan 10th, and 3 subsequent Tuesday nights. The class will include a small group discussion. The cost is only $20 a person, which includes materials and childcare each time we meet.

December 14, 2025 Unspoken: Grace Greater Than Our Sin – 2 Samuel 11:1–12:25; Psalms 51 & 32 – the story of Bathsheba would serve those who feel like they’ve lost their reputation forever, reminding them God can make beauty from ashes
December 21, 2025 Unafraid: Grace to the Humble – Matthew 1:18-25 - the story of Mary would serve those faced with overwhelming circumstances, assuring them that God is with them
December 24, 2025 (Christmas Eve) Unexpected: Grace That Brings Joy – Luke 1:5–25, 39–45, 67–80 - the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah would serve those who feel like God has forgotten them

Men’s Event THIS SATURDAY
Men, you can still register for the Men's Event - Missing the Mark! this Saturday, November 8th. This will be a time of opening God's word, hearing a testimony, and fellowship together. There will also be archery, a golf chip shot competition, and a frisbee tournament. Light breakfast & hearty lunch are included. Dress warm.

Child dedication

Prayer Meeting Tonight: At 6:30 pm, we are gathering at the church to seek God's face together. Luke 12 will be our guide as we pray tonight. Childcare will be provided. See you at the church in just a few hours.

Life Plan Annual Banquet
If you remember, when Olivia Cochran gave us an update about LifePlan a few weeks ago, she mentioned the annual banquet, which will be happening at Gospel City Church in Granger this Monday night. There is still the opportunity to get free tickets to hear all that God is doing through that ministry.

Giving Statements
Mid-year giving statements were sent out last week. Please let us know if, for some unexpected reason, it does not look accurate. Thank you for your faithful stewardship of God's resources and your support of the ministry at our church.

No Lights in Main Hallway
You may have noticed on Sunday that the lights in the main hallway and the kitchen were not working on Sunday. Apparently, a nail went through an electrical wire during the roof replacement. The good news is our breakers worked like they are supposed to, but we may be another week or so until the issue is fixed. The roofing company is working with an electrician to fix the problem. Thank you for your patience.

This Sunday, we will continue our series Living for Jesus in Light of Eternity as we study Luke 12:32-34. Can't wait to pray with you all tonight and worship together on Sunday!

This Sunday, we are gathering for fellowship and enjoying some food together right after church. Bring a crockpot of soup before church, and the Kern small group will help get it to where it needs to go for our meal after.

Finance update
If you missed the Finance update, one item I want to note is that we are encouraging folks to give via paper check. We spent almost $2,000 on credit card and bank processing fees last fiscal year. We will still have that as an option, but if you have your bank send a paper check, we can use more of our resources for gospel ministry. Also, I forgot to mention that you will receive a mid-year giving update next week. We always send one out in January. Please look them over to see if everything looks right. Let us know if you do not receive one in your inbox by the end of next week.

Prayer Night
As we increase our devotion to Christ, we are gathering corporately for prayer once a month this year. The next prayer meeting is next week on Thursday night. Childcare will be provided. I look forward to praying with you as we seek God's face together.

Women's Fall Event
Ladies, if you haven't done so already, make sure you sign up for the Fall Women's Event by this Sunday. We have to submit a final number by Monday, so registration will close by midnight on Sunday. It will be a refreshing time of worship, opening God's word, and various opportunities for fellowship with other ladies.

Finance update
This Sunday, immediately after service, we will have a 15-minute financial update. We will review how the fiscal year ended in August and share the budget for Fiscal Year 2026. I will also talk about the future building campaign.
New Roof
The roof replacement over the main hallway that was scheduled for this week had to be pushed back until next week.

Soup Sunday
Mark your calendars, the first Sunday of October is Soup Sunday!

Women's Fall Event
Ladies, if you haven't done so already, make sure you sign up today for the Fall Women's Event on Oct 18th!

This Sunday, we will take a break from our series in Luke to welcome guest speaker Knute Larson. Thank you for welcoming him.

Tables and Chairs
We are getting rid of our old tables and a few chairs that do not match our black chairs. If you would like to take tables or chairs, please feel free to grab them on Sunday after church in the gym for a donation of any amount. They will be listed on Facebook Marketplace after Sunday.

Partial Roof Replacement
Next week, we will be replacing the roof above the main hallway in the church. We used savings we had set aside for building projects. I will share the other needs we have in our facility at the Finance update on the last Sunday of September. Plan to stay after church for that brief 10-15 minute meeting.

Today, we are reminded of the traumatic events that happened 24 years ago on September 11th. In addition, our nation continues to experience the effects of evil in numerous ways. I read the Billy Graham sermon given at the National Cathedral on September 14, 2001. Those words brought hope to a shocked nation, and I found those words comforting today.

Prayer Meeting
This year, we want to decrease distractions and increase our devotion to Jesus, so we planned a time to seek God's face this Saturday, September 13th. We will spend time in prayer and worship from 9 to noon. Childcare is not provided for this prayer time; however, we plan to offer childcare for future corporate prayer gatherings.

Tables and Chairs
Lastly, we were given the generous gift of new tables for our church this summer. To make room to store the tables, we are getting rid of our old tables and a few chairs that do not match our black chairs. If you would like some tables or chairs, please feel free to grab them on Sunday after church in the gym for a donation of any amount.

This Sunday, we are going to highlight numerous ways God has been faithful to us this past ministry year. I will also share the vision God laid on my heart for the coming ministry year. Plan to come early for refreshments and fellowship.

Prayer Meeting
On Saturday, September 13th, we will spend time in prayer and worship from 9-noon. In light of what God has called us to, we want to see his face before we seek his hand. There is no childcare provided for this prayer time, but we plan to have childcare and future prayer events.

This Sunday, we are going to begin a series in Luke 12 as we live for Jesus in light of eternity.
